Providing leadership in building a public-private partnership to reduce disparities in HIV care.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Division of Infectious Diseases and the Research Informatics Service Center at the Center for AIDS Research serves as the National Program Office providing support to program partners and leadership in reducing health disparities in HIV care.
As the National Program Office, UAB helped catalyze collaboration among organizations across the Southeastern United States and improve care coordination among people most affected by HIV.
GOALS
Provided technical assistance for program implementation
Convened a learning collaborative among program partners
Developed strategic partnerships with regional and national stakeholders
Developed and implement cross-site program evaluation and outcomes, including clinical outcomes, patient-reported outcomes, and cost outcomes
Providing support and leadership to reduce health disparities in HIV care
Michael Mugavero, MHSc., MD.
Dr. Mugavero, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and Co-Director of the UAB Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). His HIV health services and outcomes research program has made seminal contributions to HIV prevention and treatment science, particularly in the areas of care engagement, ART adherence and viral suppression.
Leading the National Program Office, Dr. Mugavero and the UAB Research Informatics Service Center (RISC) team draw on their expertise in implementing, evaluating and disseminating findings from individual site-level programs congruent with the aims of the initiative, particularly related to health care disparities and social determinants of health.
